Welcome
 New DPS Educators

Congratulations & Welcome!

Denver Public Schools would like to extend a warm welcome to all new teachers and educators joining us for the 2011-2012 school year!  The coming months are all a part of your transition into DPS and we want to be sure you have the information you need.

Talented and committed people are our most important resource in driving improved outcomes for students. We know that the quality of our educators is by far the single most important factor in driving student achievement and closing the achievement gap. To significantly improve outcomes for students, we must attract teachers with the drive and potential to succeed; support teachers to develop and improve; and bolster them with effective teams of fellow teachers, school leaders, and staff who share a commitment to and accountability for student results. – The Denver Plan

As an educator who is new to our district there are a few things you need to know:

  1. Whether you are initially, alternately, or professionally licensed you have responsibilities around induction.  Please visit the induction page for more specific information.  (Induction is a state-mandated process where when you are complete you receive a certificate that is required when applying for your professional license.)
  2. If you were hired after May 16, 2011 or you simply weren't able to participate in the ELA Academy this past June, you will be required to participate in June 2012.  The ELA department will send more details over the school year.
  3. Learn about LEAP - It is likely your school is involved in this year's pilot. (see list of schools in pilot)  Your school/principal should be informing you of the process, however, you are welcome to visit the LEAP website for more information. (Special Service providers are not a part of LEAP for 2011-12)
  4. If you need help with any technology questions or set-up please contact the Department of Technology Services via the DoTS_Hotline@dpsk12.org or at 720-423-3888.
  5. Get involved and understand what is happening with professional development.
  6. Familiarize yourself with Student Growth Objectives and Professional Development Units.
